Nytarra Naturals: India's 1st Clean Everyday Home Fragrance Brand

Nytarra Naturals is India's first clean everyday home fragrance brand, built around the everyday Indian home. Whether it is your closet, bathroom, car, or pooja space, Nytarra believes every corner of your life deserves a fragrance that is intentional, clean, and honestly made.

The brand recently appeared on Shark Tank India, bringing its story and philosophy to a national audience. On Shark Tank, Nytarra showcased a new way of thinking about home fragrances in India, products that are free from toxic chemicals, transparent about every ingredient, and inspired by India's own fragrance traditions.

The Founders of Nytarra: Two Very Different Backgrounds, One Shared Vision

Tara Malhotra: Formulator, Creator, and the Heart of Nytarra

Tara Malhotra brings over 15 years of professional experience, having worked with some of the most respected media brands, including NDTV and BBC Worldwide. But it was a personal restlessness that led her to something entirely different.

Tara went on to complete a one-year certification programme, becoming a certified formulator in skincare, haircare, and aromatherapy. That training changed how she looked at everyday products, and lit the spark for Nytarra. Today, she leads product development, supply chain, and operations at the brand. Every formulation that goes into a Nytarra product has her fingerprints on it.

Adheer Awasthi: The Strategic Mind Behind the Brand

Adheer Awasthi brings 18 years of experience in capital markets and financial services. He has worked across asset management companies and NBFCs, and served as Vice President at Kotak Private Bank. His understanding of markets, capital, and business fundamentals gives Nytarra the financial clarity and strategic direction that any consumer brand needs to scale.

Together, Tara and Adheer make a grounded team, one that combines creative, scientific rigour with commercial discipline.

How It All Started

The idea for Nytarra came from a simple, uncomfortable observation.

We are thoughtful about almost everything in our homes. We read food labels. We research what goes on our skin. We choose our furniture carefully. But the fragrance of our spaces is almost always an afterthought.

Most people reach for whatever is available. A chemical-heavy aerosol spray. A naphthalene ball tucked into a corner. A plug-in air freshener with an ingredient list no one has ever read. Or nothing at all.

Tara Malhotra saw this gap clearly. And with her formulation training and Adheer's business acumen, Nytarra was born, not as a luxury play, but as an everyday solution. Affordable, clean, and designed specifically for Indian homes, Indian rituals, and Indian sensibilities.

What Does "Nytarra" Mean?

The name Nytarra comes from the Sanskrit word नितारा, meaning having deep roots.

It is a fitting name. The brand draws deeply from India's fragrance heritage, from camphor to incense traditions that have existed for thousands of years, and reimagines them for the modern Indian home.

Nytarra's philosophy is simple: fragrance should never be an afterthought. It should be a choice.

What Does "Clean" Actually Mean?

This is where Nytarra takes a position that very few brands are willing to take, especially with this level of honesty.

Clean, for Nytarra, means formulations that are free from the toxic chemicals commonly found in most home fragrance products. Specifically, Nytarra products are:

  • Phthalate Free

  • Formaldehyde Free

  • Aerosol Free

  • Paraben Free

  • IFRA-Compliant

  • Made in small batches, freshly prepared

  • Plant-based where applicable

But here is something Nytarra is refreshingly clear about: clean does not mean "natural" or "chemical-free." All matter is made of chemicals. The goal is not to avoid chemistry, it is to avoid the specific chemicals that have been shown to be harmful. Nytarra does not demonise ingredients. It simply chooses better ones, and tells you exactly what those are.

That kind of transparency is rare in the home fragrance industry, and it matters.

What Makes Nytarra Different?

Walk into most Indian homes and you will find some combination of the following:

Naphthalene balls or blocks in closets and bathrooms, a known toxic compound, classified as a possible carcinogen by IARC, that slowly releases harmful fumes into your living space.

Aerosol sprays — most conventional room freshener sprays are propellant-based aerosols containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that linger in indoor air long after the scent fades.

Alcohol-based sprays — these often carry irritants, especially problematic for children, elderly family members, and those with respiratory sensitivities.

Synthetic plug-ins and diffusers — with ingredient lists that are rarely disclosed and often contain phthalates, which are linked to hormonal disruption.

The average Indian family uses multiple home fragrance or freshening products daily, in bedrooms, bathrooms, cars, and mandir spaces. The cumulative impact of these exposures on indoor air quality is real.

Nytarra exists as a considered alternative to all of the above.

The Products: Made for Every Corner of Your Life

Nytarra's range is designed around the actual rhythms of Indian life, not a generic global template. Here is what they make:

Closet Freshener A clean, effective alternative to naphthalene blocks and balls. No toxic fumes. No harsh chemical smell. Just a thoughtfully formulated tablet that keeps your wardrobe fresh.

Bathroom Freshener: A bathroom freshener spray that does the job without aerosol propellants or harsh chemicals. Effective, clean, and safe for regular use in enclosed spaces.

Room Freshener: A clean room freshener spray or home fragrance mist for everyday use. Free from aerosols and phthalates, and formulated for the modern Indian homes.

Car Fragrance Diffuser: A hanging car perfume that keeps your car smelling good without synthetic chemicals off-gassing in a small, enclosed space.

Mystical Camphor Blend: Pure camphor reimagined. Camphor has always been central to Indian rituals. Nytarra’s camphor range brings this ancient ingredient back in a clean, contemporary form.

Havan Cups: Made with cow dung and other natural ingredients, these havan cups are designed for traditional rituals, made without charcoal and bamboo.

Incense Cones and Dhoop Sticks: Nytarra’s incense cones and dhoop sticks that bring ritual fragrance into the home without the heavy smoke or synthetic additives common in conventional agarbatti.

Every product in the range is made in small batches, freshly prepared, and designed to work within the specific contexts of Indian daily life.

Why Choose Nytarra?

If you have made it this far, you likely already sense the answer. But here it is, plainly:

Most home fragrance products in India were not designed with your health in mind. They were designed to smell good in a store. Nytarra was designed differently.

Nytarra is not asking you to compromise on fragrance. The scents are crafted with care, developed to last, and inspired by India's own rich aromatic traditions. What you give up is nothing you need: the naphthalene, the aerosols, the undisclosed ingredient bases, the hidden phthalates.

What you get in return is a fragrance that feels like a choice. A considered, clean, everyday choice.
